In Finland, sensory-based food education is part of the national early childhood education curriculum and is emphasised in the national school meal guidelines.
For more than 75 years, Finnish schools have provided all children with a free and balanced school lunch. These meals are also a valuable opportunity for food education, with activities such as the Sapere method helping children explore food through all their senses.
The Finnish Society for Food Education Ruukku, the official Finnish member of Sapere International, develops and promotes the Sapere method throughout Finland.
Many other Finnish schools, municipalities, and organisations also use Sapere-based activities to support healthy eating habits, curiosity about food, and lifelong positive attitudes toward nutrition.
