After discovering the SAPERE method and trying Taste Classes in France, Mr Somei and Mrs Kawaguchi, both dieticians, decided to launch similar classes in Japan in 2017. The initiative was first carried out in a nursery in Kyoto and was very well received. Taste Classes for 2-3 year-olds have now been rolled out across many more nurseries in Japan.

Spillover effects of food-education activities using the Sapere Method for two and three-year-olds at childcare facilities on food education and children’s likes and dislikes at home a ripple effect on the home – This three year paper published in the Japanese Journal of Health Education and Promotion, by Sapere members Junichiro Somei and Yaeko Kawaguchi, evaluates nutrition education activities at home and children’s likes and dislikes before and after sensory food activities, with 684 children.
